Aurelia "Tex" Grove, 84, longtime Guymon resident passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 27, 2017 at her home.
One of eighteen children, Aurelia was the daughter of Ramon and Guadalupe (Lopez) Roa and was born July 2, 1933 in Peacock, Texas. Aurelia grew up in the Aspermont, Texas area, moving to Guymon in 1948.
Aurelia "Tex" Roa was united in marriage to Leonard Carl Grove on September 1, 1956 in Clayton, New Mexico. She graduated from Guymon High School with the Class of 1957. Following high school, Tex worked for GTE as an operator. While working and raising a family, she put herself through college earning her Bachelor's Degree from Panhandles State University, and later earned three Master's Degrees from OSU and OU in English, Spanish and EMH. Tex then began her career as an educator with the Guymon school system, where she made an impact in children's lives for over 30 years. She was a devoted member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard on April 28, 2016; and one son, Doyle on March 26, 2017.
Survivors include her son, Dennis Grove of Guymon; five grandchildren: Zachary Grove and fiancée, Sydney Gibler of Hooker and their children, Kyla and Montana, with another on the way, KyLeigh Grove of Guymon, MaKenzee Grove of Stillwater, OK, Isaac Grove and wife, Indra of Guymon and their children, Paisley and Jasper, and Marisa Torchia and husband, Joseph of Fruita, CO and their children, Christian and Emma; one sister, Ramona Behne and husband, Bob of Guymon; and six brothers: Justin Roa and wife, Wanda of Liberal, KS, Joe Roa of Ft. Worth, TX, Wally Roa and wife, Donna of Texarkana, TX, Jesse Roa and wife Sophie of Lubbock, TX, Mike Roa of Lubbock, TX and Robert Roa of Pueblo, CO; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Rosary service will be held Friday evening, January 5th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday morning, January 6th at 11:00 a.m. also at St. Peter's with Father Mike Wheelahan, Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home.
